Never trust your Travel Agent
It is very common for a business traveler to have a travel agent. Most of the big companies use travel agent services on the daily basis because secretary’s are not able to keep up with their work and be on top of the reservations. If you are a business traveler, you know what I mean and if you don’t, keep on reading. Well, let’s look at the travel agency little more closely. The name says what they are, on its own. Don’t you think it is kind of weird that travel agents always will find you a requested room? Most of the time they do, but sometimes they can’t accommodate your request. However, their answer to your request always will be the same “Yes, I did book you into a Non-Smoking room or Smoking room (whichever you prefer)”. Half of the time they tell you they booked you whatever you need and they didn’t.
At the time of check in, let’s say to the hotel, the Front Desk warns you that you have been booked into a wrong room. In this case, most of the people say “No! I’ve used my travel agent for so long now, and they know me well and couldn’t book me into a wrong room type”! Yes, they know you well, and you should know pretty well by now that they get commission off your stays. That’s why they never tell you they booked you into a wrong room type. They blame it all on the Front Desk at the hotel.
Next time, when something like this happens, don’t make an ass out of yourself and argue with Front Desk. You have to realize that they are doing the best they can to accommodate you and make you happy. It is not their fault that requested room type was not available and that travel agent did not tell you they booked you in it.
Concluding my story, I would like to tell you not to trust your travel agent. They get commission of your stays and will always lye to you when they need to. They will do everything, so they don’t loose your business.
